Do You Need a New Thermostat?

It seems like there’s a “smart” version of all kinds of new technologies that are designed to make our lives easier. There are smartphones, smart cars, smart refrigerators, and even smart blinds!

We’re going to focus on smart thermostats. If you’ve had a new furnace or air conditioner installed in the last few years, chances are you also got a smart thermostat installed at the same time.

If your HVAC systems are older, you’re probably using an older thermostat, too. You might be wondering whether or not you need a new thermostat in Milwaukee, WI. If the one you have works, why should you upgrade it? Read on to learn more about the signs that your home would benefit from a new thermostat.

Delayed Response or No Response at All

When you adjust your thermostat, it should respond immediately. If you’re noticing a delayed response when you try to adjust the temperature in your home, something is wrong and you’ll need to have it checked out by a professional.

A thermostat that doesn’t respond at all is frustrating when you need your heater or air conditioner to turn on. There are a few reasons why this may be happening. There could be a loss of direct connection from the thermostat to the parts of the air conditioner or heater. If one of these connections breaks or if the wires are frayed, your HVAC system isn’t receiving the signal to turn on.

Inaccurate Temperature Readings

Let’s say it’s chilly in your house and you want to turn the heat up. You go to check the thermostat and discover that the thermostat believes your house is a toasty 70° when the truth is it’s much cooler.

When this happens, it means that the thermostat could be miscalibrated, which means it’s not reading the correct temperature in your home. A thermostat that can’t accurately detect the temperature in the house may be losing its ability to read the temperature and may need to be replaced.

You Upgraded Your AC or Heater But Not Your Thermostat

If you’ve upgraded your heater or air conditioner in the last decade but haven’t upgraded your thermostat since then, you’re doing your home comfort a disservice. Pairing a newer HVAC system with an outdated thermostat will undermine its efficiency.

With all the advancements in smart thermostat technology in the last few years, you owe it to yourself to replace that outdated thermostat with one that will maximize the benefits of your newer HVAC systems.

Choosing a New Thermostat

Smart thermostats can create programs that direct your AC or heater to turn on and off at certain times of day, optimizing your comfort and energy usage. These wireless thermostats can be controlled from an app on your smartphone, giving you added convenience and the ability to check on your system whenever and wherever you are.
